Samaritans is the UK's largest suicide prevention charity, and our vision is that fewer people die by suicide. Our volunteers provide compassionate listening services to people in emotional crisis, and our helpline volunteers answer a call every 10 seconds. Our 24-hour Listening Service is a confidential, non-judgmental space for anyone to call and is a vital lifeline for anyone who is struggling to cope. In Scotland we work with organisations and communities across the country to reduce suicide risk, providing emotional support through our helpline and in-person through our outreach work. We also work in partnership with the Scottish Prison Service to deliver our 'Prison Listener Scheme'. Our work across policy, research, and public awareness campaigns in Scotland aims to change attitudes towards mental health and suicide, to encourage people struggling with suicidal thoughts to speak out and seek help, as well as to encourage others to look out for signs that someone may be struggling. We are looking forward to attending The Gathering 2027 and exploring how we can work together to see fewer lives lost to suicide in Scotland. We will have emotional support volunteers at the event if anyone would like to access our Listening Service.

Our role is to champion the role of voluntary organisations in Scotland and to support them to do work that has a positive impact.
