Charities say referendum debate’s uninspiring & predictable
It needs to focus on the big issues that matter to people
- More than half of charities think the debate is uninspiring and predictable. It’s missing the big issues that matter to them and people in Scotland – poverty, welfare, jobs, health and social care
- 40% of charities and third sector organisations remain completely disengaged from the debate
- 70% are not planning to take a position on the referendum in the coming year owing to concerns about alienating funders and service users/members, and meeting staff costs
- The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations is the national body representing the interests of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises. The Scottish third sector turns over £4.5 billion a year and employs 138,000 people in over 45,000 organisations.
